David Allen Engen of Chicago passed away at the age of 82 on March 2nd 2022 after a short battle with cancer. He is survived by his children, Karrin (David) and Corey, and his grandchildren, Benjamin and Devin, as well as a sister, cousins, and nieces and nephews. David was an avid downhill skier and ski jumper both in Colorado, where he was a ski instructor in college, and with the Norgi Ski Club in IL. He proudly served as a Lieutenant on the USS Oklahoma City CLG-5 during the Vietnam War and was happy to show his slides to anyone who’d ask. David loved fishing with his son and grandson at Delaney Lake Lodge in Canada and spent many happy hours with the guests and staff there. He was a talented wood-worker, building everything from a spinning wheel for his daughter, to model airplanes he flew with the group at Tri Village RC. He also built a number of pieces for the Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit in Lincolnshire, where he loved doing projects and setting up for the Christmas Season every year. David will be missed by many. He will be interred at the Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit with a small gathering at a later date. In lieu of flowers, his family asks you to keep him in your thoughts and prayers and do not hesitate to share feelings and memories with them here.
